Biodynamic Massage

Biodynamic massage provides a unique and profound treatment towards the healing process. A typical session may include talking, massage, movement, breathwork or a mixture of these.

As a therapeutic treatment, Biodynamic massage is not simply a mechanical manipulation of muscles. Rather it provides a pleasurable and meaningful experience, both of which are very important. The pleasure of touch relaxes the system, encouraging it to soften, and enjoy a more expansive physical state. From this state we are often more resourceful and resilient to any negative emotion that may arise. This is because high levels of stress or anxiety can hijack the brains ability to process information and we fall back on habitual fight or flight responses. Gentle, intentional therapeutic touch can reduce levels of stress hormones, increase a sense of aliveness and leave us more able to cope with whatever may come our way.

Not everyone enjoys the same type of touch, the depth and pace of touch is dictated by the client and what they are comfortable with. The quality of touch suited to you will depend on your relationship with yourself and your life experiences; discovering this becomes part of the therapeutic process itself.

As well as the quality of touch being calibrated by the client, Biodynamic massage also uses a stethoscope to listen to the sounds in the digestive tract. One of the key ideas of Gerda Boyesen was that massage encourages gut reactions such as blood flow and hormone secretion, signalling the release of emotional tension in the body which can be heard as tummy rumblings.

Many clients report that Biodynamic massage allows them to feel more at home in their bodies, a place from which they can better self-regulate, feel empathy for others and process emotional experiences more coherently.
